When Do Valves and Unloaders Need Rebuilding?
There are several symptoms which may indicate the need to inspect valves for rebuilding:
> A noticeable drop in delivered air pressure
> Knocking or vibration in compressor
> An increase in air discharge temperature
> Changes in intercooler pressure on two stage units
It is important to remember that valves are the heart of any reciprocating compressor. Compressor valves are pressure activated while regulating through the compression cycle, and they open and close solely by the difference in pressure across the valve. And since a valve opens and closes during each compression cycle, it is not unusual for a valve to cycle 500,000 times per day.
Regularly scheduled valve inspections every six months will help increase the life of both your compressor and the valves themselves. If you plan on inspecting reconditioning valves yourself, our Sales Engineers will be happy to provide you with free instructions for this important process.
